Overview
This article describes the steps to prepare a prototype Windows computer for distributing the client agent by copying its disk image to the other computers.
Note: This topic applies only to Windows PC clients.
Process
- In the computer you want to use as the image, install the client agent from the setup program using the SurveyorAgentSetup.exe file.
- Verify that the client connects to the Surveyor server.
- In the Windows Services console, stop the Surveyor Agent service:
- Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
- In the Computer Management console, expand Services and then Applications.
- Under Services, right-click Surveyor Agent and select Stop.
- In the Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Verdiem\Surveyor Agent\Data folder, delete the following files:
- eventstore (contains power state and event history).
-
policy (contains power management instructions).
Note: When you transfer the image to new computers, you want them to begin with a clean history and no policy so that they receive instructions only from the server.
- In the Data folder:
- For versions 6.0.4.x or later, delete the internal file from the folder.
- For versions 6.0.x - 6.0.3.x, open the serverconfig file in a text editor, e.g., Notepad, and remove the text that assigns an ID to the client (see the example below):
"clientID": "xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx"
This enables a new unique ID to be assigned to each computer when the agent is installed.
- In the serverconfig file (in all versions), confirm that the path to your Surveyor's Power Management service is correct, and it should look similar to the example below:
{"serverURL":"http:\/server_name.local\/PMPService\/PMPService.svc\/PMP"}
- In the Logs folder, under the Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Verdiem\Surveyor Agent\Logs folder, delete all files within. Make sure not delete the folder itself.
After you prepare the prototype computer, you can copy its image to the other client computers.
To prevent collisions among Surveyor clients when they connect to the server, each computer that receives the disk image must have:
- A unique DNS (Domain Name Server) name.
- A unique MAC (Media Access Control) address.
