Overview
This article outlines the resolution steps when users cannot successfully install Everest 7.4.2 on Windows Server 2012 because the installer does not pass the initial setup of the server installation.
Solution
Follow these steps to resolve installation issues on Windows Server 2012:
- Confirm that the Windows firewall is off for both server & client.
- Configure Component settings on the server using the dcomcnfg utility by following these steps:
- Go to Component Settings (Click on Start -> Run -> type "dcomcnfg" and hit enter)
- Drill down Component Services + Computers
- Right-click on My Computer and select Properties
- Go to the Default Properties Tab
- Check "Enable Distributed COM on this computer"
- Set the Default Authentication Level to "None"
- Set the Default Impersonation Level to "Identify"
- Go to the MSDTC tab
- Go to Security Configuration in the Transaction Configuration section
- Check all the options and set the authentication level to "No Authentication Required"
- Go to the COM Security Tab
- Click Edit Default in the Access Permissions section
- Add "Everyone", "Administrator", "NETWORK" and "ANONYMOUS LOGON"
- Select My Computer | COM+ Applications
- Right-click on EVEREST and select properties>>
- Select Properties
- Go to the Identity tab
- Retype in the Administrator password
- Go to Component Settings (Click on Start -> Run -> type "dcomcnfg" and hit enter)
- Change the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3] > value for RemoteAccessEnabled from 0 to 1
- Install Everest and confirm that clients can successfully connect.
- Check the client logs at
%ProgramData%\Everest\Temp\clnterr.txt
for any Access denied errors. If found, resolve by running theEproxyUtility.exe
utility located in%InstallDir%\Icode\Everest\Client\Utilities
folder on the client workstation by following these steps:- Go to
%InstallDir%\Icode\Everest\Client\Utilities
folder. - Run the
EproxyUtility.exe
utility. - Enter Application Server name in the Server Name field.
- Everest Admin password is "admin".
- The path for eProxy table should be the Everest\Client folder.
- Click OK to open the eProxy browser.
- Right-click and select New (Ctrl+N).
- Enter the Application Server Name in the Server field.
- Enter the Domain/Workgroup name in the Domain field.
- Enter Administrator in the User Name field and enter the Administrator password, and click OK to save.
- Click Cancel in the eProxy Utility dialogue to close the same.

Testing
Everest should successfully install and allow clients to connect without errors. If the issue persists, try to install the latest version or submit a support request.
